Sherlock Holmes - More Lessons For Professional Success

Here are some more tips on how to think straight and master your profession that I have learned from Sherlock Holmes

1)Be accurate – strive to be accurate in perceiving facts and in describing them. This is of immense importance and in itself will prevent many errors. It is extremely important in thinking straight.

2)Strive for precision and exactness in your speech – This is something that I picked up from a book on public speaking actually. It is related somewhat to the first point. And if you would be precise and exact in your speech you must first be precise and exact in your thinking. I have come in contact with some lawyers in my life, good ones as well as bad ones, and the lawyer who impressed me the most had this same quality of expressing himself with precision and exactness.

3)Know yourself. Free yourself of your conditioning and your habits of overthinking. Be aware of your feelings and emotions and get some measure of detachment from them. This is necessary to stop yourself from making the same mistakes that you have done up until now. Learning to think straight is really quite simple. It is not easy but it is simple. It is the getting to know yourself, mastering yourself and stopping yourself from repeating old mistakes and old habits of thought and feeling that is difficult.

4)Expose yourself to some good influences – like Sherlock Holmes. Find yourself a role model whom you like and whom you would like to be like. And you have the Sherlock Holmes books in front of you. Read them repeatedly and expose yourself to a mastermind at work and at play and in his day to day life.

5)Imitate. Once you are free somewhat of your conditioning and have also been exposed to Sherlock Holmes repeatedly you will find it extremely simple to imitate his example. Believe me this is the simple part. Anyone can imitate. And if you have imbibed Holmes enough it will flow from inside you quite easily and naturally.

So this is what I have to say about the lesson Sherlock Holmes has to teach us and what repeated reading of Sherlock Holmes book can do for us.

I hope you enjoyed this article and that it will be useful to you. Put it into practice. Learning a new skill is never easy at first. But then it becomes easier. And once you have mastered the skill you will find that it has transformed your profession and your life.
